Aimee’s approach to therapy

When you’re already overwhelmed, therapy can be daunting. Aimee uses a gentle approach to helping you heal through talk therapy and creative expression.

There are many forms of therapy (link to resources page). Aimee is a Registered Art Therapist  (ATR) and incorporates art-making into her therapy style. You’re always in control of your healing journey; you choose the best means of expressing yourself– whether that’s communicating through conversation or sharing your emotions through a form of art.

Art is anything you create. You don’t have to be an artist to benefit from art making. The act of creating something helps you release some of the heavy weight you’ve been carrying and share emotions that might transcend words.

By incorporating art during your sessions, Aimee helps you create a safe space for you to express yourself without the restrictions of language and allows you to share emotions at your own pace. By engaging your creativity and creating art, you put distance between yourself and the topic and allow yourself to visualize your feelings. Your art is used as a healing tool; it helps you identify your emotions and provides you with the opportunity to see them from a new perspective. Creating art might help you realize that empowerment already exists within you.

Aimee helps you heal using gentle, less abrasive, and more effective means of expressing your deep emotions at a gradual, self-controlled pace. Her approach to therapy has proven to increase relaxation and future-focused confidence and a reduction of intrusive traumatic memories.

About Aimee

Aimee is a therapist with a deep belief in the healing power of art. An artist most of her life,  Aimee has found that art transcends the barriers of language and can help people heal through powerful emotions.

Aimee is passionate about helping people heal their trauma and rediscover what brings them  joy by combining her expertise as a therapist and an artist. She is a graduate of Hofstra  University’s Creative Arts Therapy Counseling program and has a private practice in Ridgefield,  CT. She is the founder of Art in Common, a community outreach non-profit whose mission is to promote creativity, increase community awareness around important social issues, and foster connection across diverse populations.

After many years in corporate America, Aimee braved the unknown and quit her job to pursue her passions in a new career. Her work at a refugee resettlement agency, where she conducted art workshops for women from Uganda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo,  drove her to pursue her degree in Art Therapy so that she could help guide individuals through the healing process.

Aimee is happily married to her second husband and is a mom to four (seven, if you include her dogs). Aimee enjoys spending time with her blended family and loves all things creative. She loves to ride her motorcycle on beautiful days and during the winter you can find her in her studio, creating something new. Check out some of the work she’s created in her studio or art from her residency in Iceland.
